Late actors Maury Chaykin and Tracy Wright were among the winners at Friday night's ACTRA Awards in Toronto.

The Toronto chapter of the Canadian performers union honoured Chaykin with the best actor award for his role on the comedy series Less Than Kind.

Chaykin starred as Sam Blecher, the driving-instructor father of the main character Sheldon Blecher, in the edgy, coming-of-age comedy set in Winnipeg. He died in Toronto last July at age 61.

The best actress award went to both Wright and Molly Parker for Bruce McDonald's rock 'n' roll film, Trigger. Parker and Wright played warring bandmates who agree to a reunion a decade after an acrimonious breakup.

Wright, who died last June in Toronto of cancer at age 50, is also up against Parker for best actress at this year's Genie Awards, set for March 10 in Ottawa.

Other winners at the ninth annual ACTRA Awards included comedian Sean Cullen, who was honoured for his voice work on the animated TV series Jimmy Two-Shoes.

Stage star Fiona Reid received the Award of Excellence for an "outstanding body of work."

ACTRA Toronto represents over 15,000 of Canada's 21,000 professional performers working in English-Canada.
